Answer

From August 1, 1855 through April 18, 1890 the United States utilized Castle Garden aka Castle Clinton as an immigration station

On April 19, 1890 the United States used a temporary immigration center in an office on Whitehall Street at southeast end of Manhattan.

Finally on January 1, 1892 Ellis Island opened as the immigration center for the United States.
